Torrington '58: Liberal survival and revival, 1945-1979
To mark the anniversary of the Torrington by-election and the completion of a project to open up access to resources for the study of the Liberal Party the Archives of the London School of Economics, Liberal Democrat History Group and the Richard Scurrah Wainwright Trust are organising a seminar to investigate the post 1945 experience of the Liberal Party - from the defeats of the 1945 general election to the aftermath of the Lib-Lab Pact.
The day will include a keynote address by Lord Dholakia and Lord Wallace on Campaigning Liberals in the 50s and 60s and sessions during the day will cover:
* Liberal campaigning: elections and by elections
* Local Government - grassroots survival
* Leaders and leadership
* Collaboration - pacts and other parties.
Speakers include Lord Wallace, Lord Kirkwood, Lord Greaves, Michael Meadowcroft and Martin Wainwright.
