Senior Statistician/Risk Analyst, c.£28-37k.
The primary purpose of this post is to lead quantitative/probabilistic risk
assessment projects using a range of statistical and probabilistic
techniques, frequently requiring development of new approaches. The
assessments will estimate levels of risk to health and/or the environment
from chemicals and other stressors, and will include quantification of
variability and uncertainty. The Senior Statistician/Risk Analyst will also
seek new risk analysis projects in the human and/or environmental areas by
identifying opportunities, networking with potential customers, and
preparing detailed project proposals.
A degree or equivalent qualification and post-graduate degree (MSc, Diploma
or PhD) in a relevant subject such as statistics, mathematics or science
with a very strong statistics/mathematics component is required. Candidates
without this level of qualification will need to demonstrate extensive
relevant experience in the field of Statistics or Risk Analysis. Extensive
experience in the development and/or use of statistical/mathematical methods
with potential for use in risk analysis and advanced use of relevant
software e.g. R, Matlab, WinBugs are also essential. The ideal candidate
will be organised, self-motivated, flexible, a good communicator and have a
strong motivation to publish their work in peer-reviewed journals.
This is a permanent post at CSL Band 5, based in the Risk Analysis Team at
the Central Science Laboratory (CSL), in a rural setting near York, UK. The
salary range for Band 5 is UK£28,421 to £37,392 and is negotiable depending
on skills, qualifications and experience.
