A PhD Studentship is available to a suitably qualified applicant with a background in biostatistics or epidemiology to develop prognostic models in cardiac surgery using large routinely collected datasets. This exciting opportunity is part of a new and innovative initiative which aims to maximise the potential for analysis of routine data in this setting; a challenging and potentially rewarding area of study. The applicant will develop strong methodological skills, from a sound theoretical basis, and will explore clinically important questions including, for example, appropriate risk stratification for patients undergoing surgical procedures. The statistical work will include developing appropriate mixed and non linear models, frailty models and model validation.
A Studentship will entitle a EU holder to have support for fees and consumables over the period of the study. They will receive a stipend of £12,000 per year plus consumables to contribute to their study. Applicants from outside the EU are equally invited to apply, and the studentships will be offered strictly on the basis of academic merit. Non EU students will receive pro rata reductions on the stipend received due to the higher course fees.
