Yes... but one thing I've learned working in the art industry where I am
daily assulted by exhibition invitations, art magazines and professional
artists, is that "art" is definately in the eye of the beholder. One really
cannot say that there is good art and bad art, only that you don't like, or
do like, someone's art. Even if I hate some art, someone else will love it
and with stuff I love, other people just shrug and even roll their eyes!
Soooo... some people will think Crowley's art is just great, others won't.
>>Maybe not wonderful - but interesting and definitely art<<
I'm starting to think the description should be "self-expression using art
materials"... but not just of Crowley. Art these days covers a HUGE amount
of "things", thanks to Marcel Duchamp I say...
>>Do occultists overegg the pudding - maybe with AOS and Crowley<<
Some people thik that *everything* Crowley did was fantastic, so they are
going to like his [visual] art too. I do think Spare had talent.
>>ps: Have you seen the new slim volume on the abbey of thelema - from
>>richard cole (he of naughty nun production) i thought yet more footnote
>>fodder but it is surprisingly engaging - but maybe i am a hopefull anorak
>>afterall : )<<
No I haven't. But I did see the photos of the Abbey by Anna Pearce in the
recent "Fortean Times". Did you see that issue, dedicated to Crowley? What
did you think... I thought the person who "dared' to be critical of Crowley
without needlessly slagging him off - Gary Lachman - was a breath of fresh
air on the topic...
