Temporary Lecturer in Theology

Salary: £27,466 to £32,796 per annum

Contract: Fixed-term, Full-time
Hours: Nominally 35 hours per week
The Department of Theology and Religion seeks to appoint to a temporary
(12 month) lectureship in the field of philosophical and/or systematic
Christian theology, from 1st September 2008. The postholder will be
required to teach undergraduates and to mark and examine in the field, while
also participating in the research culture of the Department. Applicants
should be well advanced in research at doctoral level, and preference will
be given to those with a doctoral thesis submitted by the closing date.
Please note that as part of the current 3 year pay agreement the salary
scale for this post will increase by 3% in May 2008 and 2.5% in October

The post is subject to standard probationary terms. Further information
will be issued in the contract of employment. Pension:

Job Description
Responsible To: Professor Loren Stuckenbruck (Head of Department)
Job Summary And Purpose: The main functions of the post are: a) to teach
at all undergraduate levels, through lectures, seminars and tutorials
(including dissertation supervision), and to undertake associated marking
and examining; b) to assist in the organisation and administration of
undergraduate modules in the field of theology; c) to participate in the
research life of the Department through conducting research and attending
research seminars; d) to undertake some limited administrative role in the
Department, as determined by the Head of Department.
Key Responsibilities : The main responsibility is to teach and examine
at all undergraduate levels in the fields of philosophical and/or systematic
theology. The precise range of this teaching is subject to negotiation
taking into account the postholderıs areas of expertise, but may involve:
some role in the organisation and teaching of a Level One module; teaching
parts of the Systematic Theology modules at Levels Two and/or Three;
teaching a solo-taught Level Three module (subject negotiable); supervising
a small number of undergraduate dissertations. The postholder will be
expected to continue in his/her own research and to participate in the
research life of the Department.
