It's my current job title and therefore in my auto-signature. My
previous positions have also involved a mixture of Library and
Information Management roles and my current one includes a
responsibility for ensuring our College Library adopts our College
retention policy.
It may be that there is less of a difference between the RM and LIS
professions in the UK as many LIS courses already contain RM modules -
although to be honest I cannot speak authoritatively about the nature of
RM within public libraries in the UK, perhaps our local authority RM
practitioners would know more.

My point was that in public library systems in the United States most
if not
all library systems did not have records retention schedules. As a
result of
the Patriot Act public library systems suddenly realized that they
were
retaining records that they necessarily didn't have to retain. it was
an
eye-opening experience.
It is also why you are starting to see many more Library Science
schools in
the US are now offering records management courses, but they are not
required courses.
I would still hazard a guess that in the US the vast majority of
librarians
are not aware of records management practices and principles. You are
what
is called an exception to the rule. Besides in your sig-block you self
identify as a records manager not a librarian
