daemons are non-terminating processes under UNIX. Zombies are
processes that have died but which still have an entry in the process
table.

The %p is a variable describing the root of the application; %n
represents the application name
A script somewhere is modified so that every time the machine starts
up, nagios is started.
> nagios manually: 'sudo %p/bin/%n -v %p/etc/%n/%n.cfg
so here, you're starting nagios with a startup configuration file.
