"Activation" policies on the fringes of society: a challenge to European welfare states
15 - 16 May 2008
Nuremberg, Germany
Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Section "Political Sociology" of the German Sociological Association
Concerence Website: http://www.iab.de/de/veranstaltungen/konferenzen-und-workshops-2008/aktivierung.aspx
The paradigm of "activation" is an important reference point for ongoing reforms of labour market and welfare policies in European countries. The conference aims to look at this paradigm and its consequences, particularly for benefit recipients who are "on the fringes" of labour market and society (welfare recipients, long-term ill, refugees, long term unemployed and so on).
The issue of activation will be approached from different angles:
*Ideas and ideologies of activation
*Activation policies in Europe
*The governance of activation
* Doing research on activation - methodological issues
*Activation measures and their effects on different target groups
*In the "black box" - activation from an interaction perspective
*Activation and social inclusion/exclusion
Approximately 30 researchers from several European countries will present their work; up to 90 colleagues are invited to discuss the papers and topics presented.
Deadline for registration: April 14, 2008.
Please find detailed information on the conference's website.
With kind regards
