Dear Colleagues,
Please excuse cross posting. We wish to invite you to the forthcoming
conference to be run by the Social Contexts and Responses to Risk network.
The transition to Risk Society has often been understood in terms of
changes that increase uncertainty in people's lives. Relatively little
attention has been paid to the differences between social and ethnic groups
or between different generations in the way they perceive and communicate
about risk and uncertainty. This conference breaks new ground by presenting
and discussing recent empirical work that focuses on the differences
between social groups and between generations in risk perception and
response in an international context. Speakers from Germany, Sweden and the
UK will lead sessions that present and review current policy-related
research. The findings are relevant to both policy-makers and academics
examining issues of risk in relation to employment, family life and health.
