Research Associate
Major project on the shearing characteristics of asphalt
Applications are invited for the above post in the Nottingham
Transportation Engineering Centre to work on a major international
experimental project concerned with the development and application of a
novel piece of equipment to test asphalt under conditions simulative of
those in a highway. The research will be supervised by Professor Stephen
Brown and Professor Andrew Collop and will involve close collaboration
with the University of California at Berkeley and at Davis.
Candidates should have a first or upper second class honours degree (or
equivalent) in civil, mechanical or materials engineering or in
engineering science from a research-led university and should preferably
have studied pavement and geotechnical engineering to an advanced level.
Some postgraduate industrial or research experience will also be useful.
The person appointed will be able to register for a PhD degree and, if
required, take advantage of the Institution of Civil Engineers’
professional training scheme operated by the University.
Salary will be within the range £22,332 - £24,403 per annum, depending on
qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £27,466 per annum,
subject to performance). This post, funded by the EPSRC, is available
from 1 June 2008 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period
of three years.
