Dear PV...ers ...
Muli Bwanji from Malawi. We are loving it here. Great country and fabulous people.
I have been asked to put together a day workhosp on Participatory Learning and Action for the Trocaire ( my organisation) staff in the Southern Africa region. This will happen in Maputo in June.
With some colleagues we have designed what the workshop could look like. As I have been rambling about PV for the last three months, I have been asked if it could be possible to have a couple of hours session to introduce the concept at that workshop ( it would be the last session and we are looking into making it very fun and dynamic , even maybe introduce the session with the Patricia- Veronika energizer!)
I think this could be useful anyway , as a lot of us here in the region use cameras ( photo and video) as means to capture the work of our partners and we are not very aware of the privacy of people's images.
So, due to the very short time assigned for the session I thought about introducing very simple concepts and a little bit of practice.
Could you please spread some light on how woul you go about facilitating some general and useful ideas on PV for an audience of about 17 people?.
Any suggestions most welcome.
Cheers!
Estela

Subject: Underspend news
Dear All
I've agreed with Rose Wiles at the NCRM that we will submit a list of costed ideas next week. There is no guarantee that we will be able to use any underspent funds in this way and she will need to discuss it with the NCRM director. But there's certainly no harm in asking, and this kind of extension has happened once before.
I will order the list, putting those ideas first that most closely match the underspend re-assigning mechanism in the original bid, which I attach the bid for those who've not seen it (I think it was posted here very early on). Essentially the idea was to support post-doc and post-grad researchers in particular in attending network events (which we've done), and in taking part in PV projects as interns. The spirit of the bid was to support capacity building amongst the UK social science community. We should also take into account what Duncan said about
Some of the ideas suggested so far might look a little far away from this at the moment, but remember that it could be used to raise matched funding etc. etc.
We didn't discuss dates, but I suspect sooner would be better, and it would suggest we set our own deadline of the end of September at the latest.
So I suggest the format should be:
Idea (1 paragraph)
Rationale (2 paragraphs max, linking the idea to the original bid, the work of the network and/or the NCRM)
Total and Rough costing, indicating what the money is for (have a look at the original bid for guidance on categories)
Indication of when the money would be spent.
There's no need to go overboard. If anyone who wants to can get something to me by Monday, I'll tidy it all up, check any details I need to, and then forward it on by the middle of the week.
All the best
Chris High
