Dear Phil Brown,
Thank you very much for thi, which reminded me that I had been meaning to
answer your first email about this meeting in Lincoln next Thursday. I
would be certainly interested in attending.
However, I am not sure if you will want me, now, as I am not "just" a
scientist but a hybrid: part scientist, part journalist. I work part time
at Birkbeck College in London, mostly teaching MSc courses although I do
have a small research interest, and I also work freelance as a science
writer. I have given workshops on science communication at Birkbeck and
elsewhere (including at the Gulbenkian Institute, Lisbon). Knowing
something of both sides, however, I think I could offer a different
and valuable perspective to your meeting.
I am based in Cambridge, but had been planning to be in the East Midlands
next Thursday anyway on the way to visit relatives for Easter. If you
thought that I could add something to your working lunch I would be very
happy to get to Lincoln for 11:30 and give my husband a few hours to
explore the Cathedral.
Please let me know if you are interested in this offer. (I trust that, if
so, you would be able to regard me as a journalist as far as the fee
goes... although 5 pounds is extremely reasonable!)
Best wishes
Dr. Clare Sansom
