Years ago one of the BBC radio stations used to feature an awful schmaltzy
sobbing sentimental feature called something like Their Story which featured
sad tales of couples breaking up narrated to heart-string tugging music.
You'd hear it coming out of shops or garages as you walked past. So I wrote
this, which certainly needs no further explanation:
Short Story
She was beside him in the pit
of despair in a second class
railway carriage swaying
da dum dad um. She smiled he
looked out of the window
alone he listened to his own
voice in his head …
She's gone now. He listens
to her voice in his head:
da dum, da dum ...
