Dear Colleagues - the Directorship of the Oxford University OHS was
advertised in the recent BMJ (see below). This is a stimulating role
for an experienced occupational physician. The variety of occupational
risks in research is wide - no day is the same. The organisation is
definitely special, and interesting to support. The OHS is working
well, with a well-qualified, experienced team to lead. Informal
enquiries and requests to visit to the current Director in the first
instance - [log in to unmask] I was the Director in
1998-2004, and would also be happy to answer queries -

Occupational Health Service
Director of Occupational Health Service
We are seeking to appoint an experienced Occupational Physician as
Director of
the University’s Occupational Health Service. The starting salary of
the successful
candidate will depend on qualifications and experience.
The OHS covers the occupational health aspects of work carried out by
staff,
postgraduate students, some undergraduates, and academic visitors. It
provides
advice to all levels and sections of the University including
committees, managers
and individuals, and also provides services, under contract, to certain
associated
units and external organisations. The University of Oxford offers a
varied and
stimulating challenge from the occupational health perspective,
covering health
issues which arise in a range of work environments including research
laboratories,
libraries, museums, and administrative offices.
The successful applicant will be an Occupational Physician on the
specialist register
in Occupational Medicine, with experience of working in a range of
organisations,
an interest in the occupational risks associated with research, and
experience in
relevant areas such as toxicology, respiratory medicine, ergonomics,
rheumatology,
travel and/or infectious diseases. An up-to-date knowledge of the
relevant
legislation is essential as are good communication and influencing
skills,
demonstrable skills in managing a team of professional and support
staff, and an
interest in developing the service. MRCP would be an advantage (but not
essential),
as would knowledge of the applications of IT within occupational health
services.
