The Role
Applications are invited for two Lectureships within the Film Studies
department at the University of Kent.
You will be expected to contribute your expertise to undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching in Film, by teaching on existing modules as well
as by designing new modules in your area of specialism. In particular
the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the
teaching of our core modules on British, American, and World cinema.
The nature and scope of our programme structure allows for the
development of both broad and specialist modules, and for modules
taught through both theory and/or practice.
The Person
The successful candidates will have outstanding research potential,
supported by a completed or near-completed PhD, and possess a general
knowledge of contemporary historical, critical and theoretical issues
in Film Studies. Our research covers a diverse range of areas, and is
currently organized around three main clusters: aesthetics,
documentary, and American cinema. Demonstrable potential to produce
exceptional research outcomes that complement or extend our current
research profile are essential.

The Department
Approaching its 30th anniversary, the department is one of the largest
and most vibrant centres for film study in the UK, and now encompasses
practice alongside theory, history, and criticism.
The School of Drama, Film and Visual Arts (SDFVA) combines the four
subject areas of Drama & Theatre Studies, Film Studies, History &
Philosophy of Art, based on the Canterbury campus, and Event &
Experience Design based on the Medway campus. We offer a range of
