Post-Doctoral Research Assistants x 2
Multimedia & Vision Research Lab (MMV)
Department of Electronic Engineering
Queen Mary, University of London
(Ref: 08065KR & 08066KR)
We are seeking to appoint two Postdoctoral Research Assistants to work
in a large international cooperative project involving partners from
Germany, Switzerland and The Netherland, under the IST programme.
Targeted research work envisions a significant improvement of the
results of video search and recommendation engines. This will be
achieved by improved labeling of video materials thanks to a
combination of three emerging technologies: automated (video) content
analysis, user tagging in social networks, peer-to-peer networking
(using Tribler open source software).
The focus of the project is on video (including audio track) but
expansion/inclusion of image and audio-based multimedia may be
considered if it fits well enough to the tagging and P2P perspectives.
Currently, two main technical directions and developments are planned:
(a) generation and spreading of tags and (b) content engineering for
distribution of content in P2P.
Applicants will be expected to have experience in some of the
following areas: Digital media retrieval, multimedia systems
engineering, user tagging in social networks, recommendation engines
and related fields. The ability to work effectively with colleagues
from a variety of European countries is essential. Applicants are
expected to have university degrees in Psychology, Social Science,
Arts, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or Electronic
Engineering. Excellent programming skills is also a requirement.
Both appointments are full time and for a fixed-term. One contract is
for 30 months, whilst the second one is for 3 years, both available to
start as soon as possible. The salaries for both these posts will be
in the range of £27,813 - £30,968 per annum (inclusive of London
Allowance)
