This site provides access to the full text of a 80 page report by Elliot Sperling which was published as policy studies no.7 by the East-West Center, (a think tank based in Washington) in 2004. It traces the history of relations between China and Tibet, considering Chinese and Tibetan viewpoints on the status of the region. This offers insight into the historical origins and nature of the conflict. It also considers Tibetan demands for independence in their historical context.

The Research blogging website is run by a not for profit organisation whose purpose is to enable users to quickly identifiy high quality peer reviewed blogs and blog postings. It maintains subject based indexes and editors ensure that only those postings meeting their academic guidelines are accepted. A wide range of subject areas from the humanities, social sciences and sciences are covered. Individual entries often focus on reviews and comment relating to scholarly journal articles, citations are given and links through to the blogs where they were posted. It is possible to sign up to receive RSS feeds of new additions to the website.

The GreenFILE database indexes journal articles, government documents and papers covering a wide range of subject areas relating to the interaction of human beings with the environment. These include: human geography, environmental policy, regulation and sustainable development. Access is offered free via the Internet by EBSCO publishing. Some journals are indexed as far back as 1948. Some of the abstracts link through to full text open access versions of the articles.

Le CODHOS (Collectif des centres de documentation en histoire ouvrière et sociale) is a French association of organisations which is concerned with promoting the research of French social and labour history. This special website was created in 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the 1968 student uprisings and protest movements in France. It provides a chronology of the 1968 events, a bibliography of 40th anniversary publications and special media coverage, a calendar of 2008 commemorative events. Also provided is a useful directory of links to related websites. All information is offered in French only.

An experimental blog launched in 2008 by the Hansard Society in dialogue with the House of Lords. It seeks to promote wider political communication by promoting blog postings by members of the Uk House of Lords. Postings describe the role and current activities of the House of Lords and offer some insight into the working s and viewpoints of individual peers.

This website was created by American broadcaster PBS as part of its Presidents Series to provide coverage of the 2008 American presidential election campaigns. It focuses on enabling students to compare and contrast 2008 issues with the history of American presidential election campaigns to discuss trends and emerging issues. The site includes biographies of past presidents, (Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Franklin D. Roosevelt, George Bush, Jimmy Carter and Harry Truman ) film clips from interviews and broadcasts. It also features user discussion forums, and podcasts with experts discussing the elections.

It is maintained by Stanford University, Islamic and Middle Eastern Collection which seeks to create a web archive of blogs from Iran and Iranians around the world. These are a useful source of commentary on Iranian government policies, the foreign policy of Iran; democracy, human and womens rights in Iran and Iran and fundamental Islam. The archived blogs contain snapshots on different dates. They include examples from students and activists. Some material in Persian only.

Another excellent website from the Guardian newspaper's Special Reports. This covers the background, history and politics of the new Balkan country Kosovo. There is a also a blog-style list of news updates. A range of viewpoints on Kosovo are covered, from those who are against the formation for the country to those who support it.

This site forms part of the Oxford Digital Library. It provides free access to digitised images of over 1400 political cartoons relating to the French revolution and Napoleonic wars. They include interesting examples of British attitudes towards Napoleon, Europe and the fear of revolution. Materials are taken from volumes of A. M. Broadley's Napoleon in caricature (1911) and J. Holland Rose's Life of Napoleon (1905). Also accessible are prints and manuscripts relating to the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. Copyright and bibliographic information is displayed on the website.

The website of the Proceedings of the Old Bailey provides a searchable online version of the Proceedings produced by the Humanities Research Institute, University of Sheffield and the higher education Digitisation Service, University of Hertfordshire. This online version currently contains historical and legal background to trials at the Old Bailey as well as the accounts of over 22,000 criminal trials held at London's central criminal court, and aims to cover from 1674 to 1834 on completion of the project. It provides "digital images of the 60,000 original pages of the Proceedings" and a special section for schools. The Proceedings can be searched by keyword, name, date, place, crime and verdict and punishment. It also contains statistical search, advanced search, or links to other materials relating to the Old Bailey Proceedings. There is background information to life in eighteenth century London covering communities, policing, crime, trial procedures, judges, juries and punishment. There are links to notable trials, information about the Proceedings and sources of other books and documents dealing with Old Bailey trials. This online version is free of charge for non-commercial use and many of the materials are presented in HTML format.
