Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

we would like to kindly remind you of the Call for Papers for
"Knowledge
Visualization and Knowledge Relationship Discovery" which is part of
I-
KNOW'08, the International Conference on Knowledge Management. For
more information and important dates please take a look at the call
for papers below.

It would be great pleasure to welcoming you in September 2008 here in
Graz.

Kind regards,

Michael Granitzer

Special Track on Knowledge Visualization and Knowledge Relationship
Discovery
3 September 2008
Graz, Austria

This one-day special track is a programme item of I-KNOW '08, the 8th
International Conference on Knowledge Management which takes place in
Graz, Austria from 3rd to 5th September 2008. The Special Track
provides an interdisciplinary forum for international scientists and
practitioners to discuss various aspects of knowledge and information
visualisation and knowledge discovery.
The I-KNOW is part of a joint venture of the conferences united under
the brand TRIPLE-I (http://triple-i.tugraz.at/): I-KNOW -
International Conference on Knowledge Management, I-MEDIA -
International Conference on New Media Technology, and I-SEMANTICS -
International Conference on Semantic Technologies. TRIPLE-I reflects
the increasing importance and convergence of Knowledge Management, New
Media Technologies and Semantic Technologies. This unique concept aims
at bridging the gaps between the various communities and their
technology fields.

Objectives

This KVD special track is the fifth event of a series which started
with KIV (Knowledge and Information Visualisation) at I-KNOW '03 and
which was extended and renamed to KVD beginning with I-KNOW '06. The
2008 special track on Knowledge Visualization and Knowledge
Relationship Discovery (KVD '08) addresses the emerging fields of
knowledge and information visualization, knowledge discovery and
information retrieval, involving discovery, visual presentation of and
interaction with abstract knowledge, information spaces and structures
to facilitate their rapid assimilation and understanding. Special
emphasis is placed on the identification and analysis of relationships
between knowledge items rather than knowledge items themselves.
Original scientific papers are solicited in all aforementioned areas.
Submissions will be reviewed by a board of international experts with
accepted papers to be published in the I-KNOW conference proceedings.
The special track will be held in English.

Topics

We invite submissions of scientific papers presenting methods, tools,
technologies, best practices and case studies which deal with issues
including, but are not limited to:
* Visualisation of search results, text and multimedia corpora
* Visualisation of knowledge, concepts, relationships and
information
structures
* Visualisation of temporal and spatial data
* Human computer interfaces for knowledge and information
visualisation
* Visual representations and interaction techniques
* Empirical studies of knowledge and information visualisation
techniques
* Perceptual factors for knowledge and information visualisation
*       Visual analytics
* Data structures, frameworks, and models underlying knowledge
discovery and visualisation
* Knowledge discovery and web mining techniques
*       Knowledge relationship discovery
* Supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques for
knowledge discovery
* Information summarization and knowledge extraction
*       Natural language processing
*       Topic detection and tracking
Submissions might also address applications of knowledge discovery and
visualisation in areas such as mind mapping, decision support, e-
learning, CSCW, healthcare, virtual environments, search engines,
mobile and pervasive computing, or bioinformatics.

Target Group

The topics mentioned above are addressed at researchers and developers
as well as at practitioners and providers in the fields of knowledge
and information visualization and knowledge discovery.
