Quality Assurance Specialist (Marine) – GIS Competent

A one year temporary contract has arisen to develop quality assurance
schemes for ecological assessments. You will lead the design, planning and
execution of quality assurance protocols/ schemes for marine biological
components.
The post will be responsible for reviewing existing modules in light of new
work areas and leading the design and execution of new quality assurance
modules
Other responsibilities will include: promoting the importance of quality
assurance for marine biological monitoring in the UK, creating efficiencies
through co-ordinated interagency quality assurance, contributing to the
development of standard operating procedures, and collating and reviewing
data relevant to the achievement of the above objectives.
The post requires an enthusiastic person educated with a first or second
class degree or equivalent in marine biology, preferably with an M.Sc and a
good working knowledge of marine ecological monitoring techniques. Other
key requirements include a working understanding of field and laboratory
sample analysis, statistical procedures relating to analysis of marine
biological data, and knowledge of some or all of the relevant European
Directives (i.e. Water Framework, Habitats and Birds Directives) and the
role quality assurance plays in reporting.
The post holder must be computer literate and have demonstrable experience
of data handling using GIS, databases and spreadsheets and report writing.
The post holder must be comfortable with flexible working and be prepared
to travel within the UK to liase with key stakeholders for which a full
driving license will be required. Strong links will need to be formed with
partners involved in marine biological monitoring so good communication
skills will be essential.
