Dear all,
Thank you to all those who responded to a previous message concerning
the Refugee Council's research project on border controls - the
information you provided was incredibly useful. Just to recap, the
British Refugee Council is carrying out a 12 month research and advocacy
project focussed on a number of UK extra-territorial border controls
(mainly in airports) and their impact on access to UK/EU territory, with
the aim of ensuring that these controls do not prevent access to asylum.
We are planning on carrying out a limited amount of field work both in
the UK and in Turkey. We are hoping to carry out interviews over a 3
week period in May, with agencies working with intercepted migrants in
Turkey, as well as UK and host country immigration authorities. Our
goal is to collect evidence on the implementation of UK border controls
in Turkey and the impact of these controls on individuals who may want
to make an asylum claim. We are now looking for contacts to interview
in Turkey - mostly support agencies dealing with intercepted migrants or
refugees or those with access to irregular migrants within Turkey. We
are hoping to identify the most appropriate contacts within the Turkish
immigration and border control authorities. It would also be useful to
talk to any researchers in Turkey who are looking at the issue of border
controls or access to asylum and might be interested in being involved
in the field work. We will need a translator/interpreter to either
attend or conduct the interviews so it would be great to find some
research students, especially from the Kurdish/Iraqi/Afghan communities.
I would appreciate any advice or contacts you could suggest.
Many thanks
Sile
