Dear All,
Please find attached an advertisement for a fully-funded PhD position to
examine the "Installation of conductor (pipe) in ultra deep water" at the
University of Bristol in United Kingdom. I would appreciate it if you
could draw it to the attention of your students and colleagues.

PhD Studentship in Civil Engineering [Structural/Geotechnics] Department
of Civil Engineering [University of Bristol]
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship is structural/geotechnical
engineering in the area of deep-water oil and gas exploration. The project
will be funded by Geoprober Drilling Limited (U.K) and is available for
three years starting as soon as possible. The eligibility is a UK (home)
student or EU student with 3+ years of residency. The successful candidate
will have/(will be having) a higher degree in civil engineering (M.Eng)
with a minimum of 2.1. The minimum stipend is £12,940. A suitable
candidate may earn more through teaching assistantship.
The project is described below:
Increasingly, offshore oil and gas (hydrocarbons) fields are being
discovered and exploited from water depths of more than 3000m. In order to
convey the oil and gas from hydrocarbon reservoir to the seabed - a steel
slender pipe (conductor) is installed deep into the ground. The broad aim
of the research is to study the various aspects of the installation, such
as buckling instability of the conductor, dynamic behaviour of the
conductor under the action of cyclic loads. The project involves
small-scale model tests and numerical modelling.
