I hope you don't mind me sending this to you. If you agree with it, could
you pass it on to your eco friends and networks? My brother is one of the
people behind this proposal and it really is a brilliant one.
One of the dozen or so proposals for an Ecotown to be decided in the next
few weeks by the government is one proposed for a brownfield site in Sussex.
(Many of the proposals are criticised for just being revamped planning
proposals that were rejected, many are on greenfield sites). This one is
exceptional - it is for a small town of approx. 5000 homes on a disused
airfield (you guys should like that!) at Ford, near Arundel in West Sussex.
At present it is a desert with an open prison, a concrete factory and acres
of concrete runways. There is no wildlife to speak of.
The proposal is for a self contained ecologically run settlement, thought
through thoroughly by the proposers (all local, all over 65, one of whom is
my brother) and could be a truly amazing showcase for sustainable
settlements.
There is a website www.fordenterprisehub.com
Check it out and if you support this to go ahead, please write to Caroline
Flint, Minister for Housing, as soon as possible as they are due to choose
which ones to go ahead with very soon.
Thanks
Annie
