Understanding families and relationships over time
30th October 2008 - Dynamic Earth – Edinburgh
Organised by the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships (CRFR)
in partnership with the Timescapes Project.

A one-day conference providing an opportunity to consider research that
takes a qualitative, longitudinal approach to researching families and
relationships.
By studying families and relationships over time, we can better understand
change, continuity, transitions and stages. There are many developments in
qualitative approaches to longitudinal research currently taking place and
this conference provides an opportunity to hear about these and to
consider the uses of this approach to research in policy making.
One of these programmes, Timescapes, is exploring the ways in which
personal and family relationships unfold over time and over the life
course, and how those relationships shape who we are. The focus is on
relationships with significant others: parents, grandparents, siblings,
children, partners, friends and lovers.
****Call for workshops and parallel sessions****
We are inviting proposals for workshops and parallel sessions during the
conference.
These could be on:
*Themes and specific substantive topics such as intergenerational
relationships, *Methodological issues and challenges, *Policy issues and
the challenges of using QLR evidence
A parallel session would comprise a set of related papers with a chair and
time for discussion. A workshop would aim to be discussion based with very
short contributions or the use of other media/formats in order to
stimulate discussion or other actions.
The aim is to provide an opportunity to interact with issues of
qualitative longitudinal research on families and relationships and with
other delegates.
We particularly welcome sessions organised in partnership between academic
and policy or practice organisations.
Please submit your proposal via the web at:
