Accessible Design in the Digital World:
new media, new users, new technologies
University of York
York, UK
22 - 24 September 2008

=======================================
Call for Participation
After the successful conference on "Accessible Design in the
Digital World" held in Dundee in August 2005, we have decided to
hold a second conference on the same themes and style. As before,
the conference will provide an opportunity for researchers and
practitioners to discuss and debate the possibilities for
accessibility and usability in the emerging world of Web 2.0,
ubiquitous and pervasive technologies and user experience.
We plan to keep the conference small and informal, with plenty of
time for discussions, and a mix of contributions of people from
academia, industry and the voluntary sectors, all factors which
contributed to the success of the first ADDW conference.
Workshops will be held on Monday 22nd September, with the main
conference (single track only) on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th
September.
Areas of interest include, but are not restricted to:
* Accessibility in the home
* Blended and e-learning
* Convergence of media, old and new: television,
telecommunications, the internet
* Location-based services
* Methods for working with users
* Mobile and ubiquitous computing
* Multimodality, audio and haptic interaction
* Needs of specific user groups
* Validation and testing tools
* Web accessibility
We invite submissions for the following categories:
Reflective papers:
Papers which give a overview of a particular topic or research
question. This might include reflecting back on your own research
or the research of others in a particular field. It might include
outlining where you think a particular topic should be heading.
Research and practice papers:
Papers which report on recent contributions to research or practice
in any area relevant to accessible design in the digital world. We
encourage not only papers which report on particular studies, but
also cases studies and examples of best practice. We would also
welcome examples of attempts at accessibility which have failed; we
are perhaps too reluctant to discuss our failures, yet it is
important to give others indications of directions worth pursuing.
Workshops and tutorials:
Workshops may be an opportunity to bring together people from a
particular research or practice community, or people interested in
a particular topic, for in-depth discussion and debate. Tutorials
are designed to introduce participants to a particular topic of
interest, to provide both background information and up-to-date
research or practice ideas.
Initial deadline for all submission types: 7 April 2008
