Another announcement of interest to students on this list:
PhD students Victoria Donovan and Robert Harris are organising an
interdisciplinary postgraduate conference on the Russian National Idea to
take place at the University of Oxford on 6-7th June 2008. The conference
is open to all scholars in the fields of modern languages and literature,
history, geography, and cultural studies. Papers are invited on any aspect
of Russian nationalism, although preference will be given to those
employing an inter-disciplinary approach. The provisional panels proposed
are:
1) The Development of Russian National Consciousness and Ideology in the
19th and 20th Centuries
2) Writing History and Nation-Making in Soviet and Post -Soviet Russia
3) Nationalism and Nostalgia
4) Cults of the Individual and the Soviet National Myth
5) Nationalism in Russian Literature Home and Abroad
