A job opportunity has arisen in the statistical team in the Welsh Cancer
Inteligence & Surveillance Unit in Cardiff. The Unit is responsible for
cancer registration in Wales and produces the official cancer statistics

The statistical work is varied but comprises two main areas:-
(a) surveillance - monitoring trends. geographical comparisons
and "cluster" analysis
(b) intelligence - deriving useful information from data, such as
predicting future incidence, patient flows, prevalence estimation,
evaluation of high cost drugs and faciliating clinical audit and research
We encompass both traditional methods e.g.Esteve J, Benhamou E and Raymond

and modern methods of analysis e.g. diesease clusters, mapping, survival
analysis etc. using Stata and R and Arcview GIS.
We are based in the Velindre NH Trust but have close collaborations with
academic centres in Wales and outside. For example the Health Information
Research Unit (HIRU) in Swansea and the London School of Hygeine (LSHTM)
in London. There are international links.
This could provide a useful way in to this area of health statistics and
the opportunity to become part of a successful vibrant team which is much
