in a epigraph, and dispense with the asterisk, which gets in the
reader's way.
I like the title, but it does confuse a little. At first, I thought the
city was Athens, and had to make a mind-switch farther down.
No, no -- the asterisk only means that the word after it is italicized; I
don't know how to italicize otherwise in plain text. And two asterisks
around a phrase (not here) mean that the phrase is. In the Collected
Edition there will be no footnote.
