Andrew
I am seriously concerned at the under reporting of fatal and potentially
fatal crashes of cyclists which include a fatal crash on Aiskew LC
(Wensleydale) and the cyclist run over (with loss of a leg ) between
Pannal and Knaresborough. We also have fatal crashes on tram lines
(Sheffield 2007) and potentially fatal ones (emergency tracheotomy to
restore breathing - not reported to rail operator as the victim crawled
clear of the running lines dragging his bicycle, and wa fortunate to
find the occupant of the crossing cottage was a qualified nurse.
One crossing - part of a series of 4 near Turves (Cambs) - all on the
same minor road has felled at least 4 cyclists in recent years - and no
records appear to be taken by the signaller of lines blocked by people
and their cycles.
With more on-street tramsways we will continue to see cycle rail falls
and fatalities with luittle done to make appropriate input into the
design of tram and rail crossings and no accurate records collated...
I'm interested to have a poll of anyone who knows of a fall on a rail in
road crossing.and whether the rail authorities actually recorded it.
