Hiya Folks,
I find this an odd debate.
My own preference has always leaned toward personal repositories. And I
have always felt that personal repositories should act for academics the
way e-portfolios are intended to act for students: on the one hand, as a
place to display one's work, and on the other, as a convenient place
where agencies (such as tenure committees) can assess a body of work.
External recognition (including, but by no means limited to,
'publication status', 'awards', 'number of Google citations') ought to
be (link-verifiable) notations in a personal repository.
I know that the bulk of effort has been toward institutional archiving;
I wonder if the motivation issue isn't addressed my making archiving
more personal.
Just my POV.
