ANNOUNCING: TWO E-LEARNING CONFERENCES, OXFORD UNIVERSITY
*** Event bookings now open. Full programmes available ***
1) Beyond Digital Natives: Old Problem, New Systems
One day conference and debate on teaching and learning
Said Business School, University of Oxford, - 4th April 2008
http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ltg/events/beyond2008/
------
This year the Beyond conference looks at student learning styles for the
"Net Generation" and whether technology is a help or a hindrance.
Keynotes from Dr Joan K Lippincott from the Coalition for Networked
Information in the US talking about the rise of the Digital Native, and Prof
Sugata Mitra from Newcastle University talking about the Computer in the
Wall Project will juxtapose with the morning panel session consisting of
young learners from across the educational sphere exploring the logic of
"Don't educate me, teach me to pass exams".
Our annual debate this year has Prof. Rose Luckin, Professor of Learner
Centred Design at London Knowledge Lab, Brian Kelly, UK Web Focus at UKOLN
and IWR Information Professional of the Year, Dr John Fazey Director of
DipTLHE at the Oxford Learning Institute, and Ajit Jaokar co-author of
'Mobile web 2.0' discussing the motion "This house believes that the
continuing introduction of new technologies and new media adds little to the
quality of most education."

2) The Shock of the Old 7: Web 2.0 and the Connected Future
One-Day Conference on Educational Technologies
Said Business School, University of Oxford, - 3rd April 2008
http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ltg/events/shock2008/
Shock 7 will explore the issues arising from an increasingly connected
future. The rise of online content-creation tools, personalised information
services and new rivals to institutional learning spaces presents both an
opportunity and challenge to educational technologists. How can we make the
best use of these exciting new opportunities for teaching, learning and
research? Can education keep pace with the fast development of technology in
an era of social tools?
-------
Similar charging of 90 pounds per day for non-commercial applies to both
conferences.
Seating is limited, early booking is advised as both were at capacity last
year.
