Starlink Software Collection - "Humu (Altair)" Release
--------------------------------------------------------
The Joint Astronomy Centre announces a new release of the Starlink
Software Collection.
Highlights of the "Humu (Altair)" release include:
* It is now possible to relocate the release into any directory.
* GAIA can now volume render cubes, allowing for improved visualization.
* A new KAPPA application called PLUCK allows for the extraction of
interpolated WCS co-ordinates that may not correspond to a pixel
centre. For instance, a spectrum can be obtained at given equatorial
co-ordinates from a spectral cube.
* File provenance is now added to output files, allowing one to track the
input files through the entire history of the file. Provenance handling is
automatic, but can be examined using a new KAPPA application called
PROVSHOW, or additional provenance added using PROVADD.

Support
-------
The Starlink Project was terminated in June 2005. The Starlink Software
Collection is being maintained by the JAC, with support from STFC, for
the benefit of our users. Bugs or feature requests reproducible with UKIRT
or JCMT data sets should be e-mailed to [log in to unmask] where they
will be attended to in priority order.
Non-JAC users are encouraged to report bugs to [log in to unmask]
where they may be attended to on a best-efforts basis by volunteers.
Open source developers wishing to send in patches or wanting access to the
CVS repository should email [log in to unmask]
