well at least there is no error message. :)
I saw this previous message on the spm help list but there was no follow-up

Perhaps it is a matlab 7.3 problem on linux?
The other possibility is that you have a corrupt .ps file. Try renaming or
deleting any .ps files in the directory you are trying to print to, restart
matlab, and make sure JavaFigures are enabled. After that I'm out of ideas.
