Applications are invited for three UK Economic and Social Research Council
(ESRC) Quota Studentships to commence in October 2008. ESRC full
studentships are open to UK residents, and EU-residents who have lived in
the UK for over 3 years. The awards may be for Œ1+3¹, or Œ+3¹ years for
candidates who already hold an ESRC approved Masters qualification.
Successful applicants for a Œ1+3¹ award will take an initial year of
research training by doing the MSc in Social Research Methods, the MSc in
Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Research, or the part-time MSc in
Social Research.

Maintenance grants for all studentships are currently worth GBP12,600 per
annum (2007-8) and are not taxed. PhD students also have the opportunity,
and are encouraged, to undertake some paid undergraduate teaching in the
department.
Applicants whose proposals have a strong quantitative focus and wish to gain
additional training in advanced quantitative methods, which could include
computer simulation, will be eligible to apply for an additional ESRC annual
stipend of GBP3,000.
