Yet once more at the request of Scott Lucas:
Dear Spenserians,
For the past ten years, the Spenser Roundtable has been a popular
fixture at the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference.
Each year, the Spenser Roundtable brings together four or five
Spenserians to present brief (10 minute) papers handling some aspect of
a topic selected in advance by past Roundtable participants. After
their presentations, the speakers then join with each other and with the
audience as a whole in a free-flowing discussion of both the papers
presented and of the current state of critical thinking about the topic
at hand. The Roundtable usually aims to bring together for the panel
both established scholars and new, up-and-coming students of Spenser.
The topic of this year's Spenser Roundtable is "Spenser and Genre," and
we are interpreting the topic broadly to include any consideration of
Spenser's use of classical, medieval, and/or early modern genres in his
writings; Spenser's creation and employment of new literary forms; or
Spenser's influence upon the writing and generic thinking of his own
contemporaries or of later authors. The Roundtable will take place, as
always, at the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference, which will convene
this year in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 23-26, 2008.
The organizer of the Spenser Roundtable, Scott Lucas, welcomes brief
(about 100 words or so) abstracts of papers touching on some aspect of
the topic Spenser and Genre. You can send your abstract as an email
attachment to me at [log in to unmask], by fax to 843-953-1881, or
by traditional mail to the address printed below. If you would like
further information, please feel free to drop me a line at the email
address above. The deadline for abstracts is March 5, 2008.
Thanks,
Scott
