This story touches on some of this plus some other issues - might be worth a read.
Comments from those involved in the PSS network would be most welcomed

Subject: Supervision Breakdown / Request / Thanks
I would like to reintroduce myself - I am now in an education faculty
researching doctoral supervision: models / practice / experiences of
supervision & attrition or completion, having recently withdrawn from one
programme under what felt like very stressful circumstances.
I am grateful to Alec for posting his paper; I wish to use autoethnography
in my project but so far have only produced fictionalised dialogue as some
personally cathartic exercise; I am also under some pressure to select a
rather more conventional empirical methodology. I am posting one such piece
to reinforce my committment to using this qual.technique / as a personal
declaration.
If anyone would like to send a narrative account (however short)of their
experience of supervising / being supervised / reasons for withdrawing / why
a particular supervisory relationship has worked well / etc. my e-mail is
[log in to unmask] (in confidence / anonymity assured unless you
state otherwise)
