Dear Chris,
We have acquired structural MRIs before and after treatment in 10 large
animals (5/group).
I can't specify the species due to very strong animal activist presence
here; they are close to humans.
As the first step to see any effects of treatment on the brain, I just
want to see if there is any change in the size of brain structures
(specifically, subcortical regions).
After trying out several tools that can draw VOIs on the Nifti files,
MRIcron seems to be the best.
Since I don't have any experience in this kind of study (volume
measurement), I just wonder if MRIcron has been used to determine the
volume of brain structures for publication.
Or, should I use different image analysis program for this purpose?
Thank you,
Buyean

Elisabeth-
The Draw/Descriptives command will display a lot of information about
your
VOI. In the example below, the VOI includes 347 voxels for a volume of
11.24cc. There are different values for whether you include all voxels
in
the VOI (VOI), all voxels that are not zero (VOI <>0) and all positive
voxels (VOI > 0). You also get details of the mean intensity of voxels
under the VOI, range of voxel intensity and the center of mass...
VOI notes
Center of mass XYZ 44.53x37.44x11.57
VOI n=min/mean/max=SD: 347[11.24cc]=8704.0000/9858.7780/
11000.0000=549.4175
VOI <>0 n=min/mean/max=SD: 347[11.24cc]=8704.0000/9858.7780/
11000.0000=549.4175
VOI >0 n=min/mean/max=SD: 347[11.24cc]=8704.0000/9858.7780/
11000.0000=549.4175
