Dear Marianne
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I have been looking at guidelines
from other hospitals and most seem to wait about 2 hours before commencing
Syntocinon after ARM. I have not been able to find evidence (other than
anecdotal), that starting syntocinon immediately after ARM reduces the
chance of having a caesarean section.
Kind regards

Dear Sue,
In Holland it is common practice to start syntocinon twelve hours after ARM.
I don't know the number of caesarean sections for "failure to progress".
Kind regards

Dear All,
At the moment it is current practice in our unit to wait two hours following
ARM before commencing syntocinon. It is being suggested that if syntocinon
is commenced straight away, this would reduce the number of caesarean
sections. However, it also thought that there would be no difference in
outcome, just the labour would be shorter! Have you any thoughts on this?
Kind regards
