Just a last minute reminder to all you JISC projects out there that
the OR08 Poster deadline is coming up on Monday 4th February.
I hope that the conference will provide a very good dissemination
opportunity for your projects. The posters won't just be relegated to
a dusty antechamber and never seen again!
After the last plenary session on the first day of the conference
there will be a Minute Madness session, where each presenter has 1
minute to pitch their poster to the whole conference. This creates an
awareness of your work, and encourages people to come to talk to you
at the poster session itself. Minute Madness is quite fun as the time
limit is strictly enforced and so there is an air of a sporting
activity as people try to have their say without being guillotined!
The Poster Reception itself has a buffet and drinks incorporated in
the same space. This worked exceptionally well in the conference last
year, and encouraged everyone to wander around the posters and have
discussions. As a poster presenter myself last year, I found myself
busy in conversation for most of the whole two hours.
In addition, we will put the PDFs of the posters themselves (as well
as the two-page descriptions) on the conference website for permanent
visibility and ongoing discussion, and will have a rolling slideshow
of posters on various plasma displays around the conference rooms.
We hope that all these factors add up to a really good opportunity for
you to get your project's message out to an international audience.
Early registrations show a ratio of 4:3:1 for Europeans to Americans
to Brits, so you can be sure that you won't just be talking to The
Usual Suspects!

PS I know that the deadline is close, but you only need a two-page
description ("proposal") and the actual Monday deadline means midnight
in Hawaii, which is actually 10am on Tuesday for those in the UK.
