The dpns-setacl man page says:
The "mask" entry must be present if there are specific "user" or
"group" entries.
This is standard Posix.
So your command should be:
/opt/lcg/bin/dpns-setacl -m g:atlas/Role=production:7,m:7
/dpm/lancs.ac.uk/home/atlas/atlasdatadisk
