I think the picture on the front cover of Pulse puts things nicely
into perspective with a chap holding a card saying 'We want GPs and
nurses we know, not '8-till late' Supermarkets! I heard the piece on
Radio 4 coming across today and I do not think we are getting our
message across very well.
Additionally i think we are starting from a very weak position. We all
think extended hours is a bad idea for all concerned and will not help
patients, so why are we negotiating from a stance that we will offer
some extended opening?? I see from many of the pieces that this
extended opening involves urgent care as well! If during the day we
did not have to plan for the urgent care element then we could all
open our surgery appointments more. We obviously have to plan for the
unknown.
Best wishes
