Tho' this is taking the argument on another little segway I was most
intresested by a comment made about the idea of refereences you make in
your poetry, and how that is a manifestation of allowing the
external "reality" into the internal "fantasy" of the poem.
I'm guilty of putting in references into my poetry that all of about
three people in this world will either spot or understand...but when you
make a reference tht is picked up on by a larger audience (5 or more
people!!!) it gives a sense I tihnk of gratification that your world view
(or your quirky representation of it) is understood and felt by more
people than just you.
Because essentially, no matter how internal or external the focus of your
poetry, you are just trying to convey a message to anyone who might read
the poem and hope that it clicks and connects you for even the briefest of
moments....
