Call for Submissions to an Edited Volume on Women¸ Studies in the West (in
Mandarin Chinese by a University Press in China)
The book aims to introduce western feminism and women's movements to
scholars and university students in China. It will be one of the volumes in
the series on "Western Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences", and
will serve as a textbook for upper level undergraduate and graduate
seminars such as "Women's Studies in the West.?It will be an
interdisciplinary volume that covers women/feminist studies in several
different areas such as political science, anthropology, economics,
literature, media, sociology, history, etc. Comparative angle is not
mandatory but instances from a Chinese context should be encouraged, given
its targeting readership. Each chapter should aim to introduce lead
figures, core reading and key debates within the length of 18-20 pages. In
addition, one shall aim to analyse the current dynamics and development
without losing sight of the historicity of the topic.
We are interested in contributions that address areas that include, but are
not restricted to, the following:
Theories of feminism and womenî–¸ movements
Gender and sexuality/homosexuality
Gender and social policy
Women/gender and the media
Women and the workplace/labour force
Women and religion
Women and sport
Potential contributors may submit abstracts of no more than 300 words in
Mandarin by 15th of March to the following editors via email. The full
script is expected before September.
