ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR PAPERS

IMAGING IN THE EYE IV

AN IOP-BMVA JOINT EVENT

Wednesday 28th May 2008

The Institute of Physics, 76 Portland Place, London, W1N 3DH

This cross-disciplinary meeting aims to bring together the related research
communities of eye imaging instrumentation, image processing, and clinical
ophthalmology. This meeting draws on the established highly successful
biennial IOP meeting series as well as the long-standing series of technical
meetings of the BMVA on computer vision and image processing themes. It will
provide an informal forum for both scientists and clinicians to present and
discuss recent and on-going work on imaging in the eye, eye-related image
processing, and clinical applications and motivations.

Invited Presentations

Wolfgang Drexler (Cardiff University)

Simon Harding (Liverpool University)

Scope

Submissions are invited in all areas of clinical, scientific and
technological developments associated with imaging in the eye, including:

* Development, applications and clinical studies of techniques for
imaging in the eye, e.g. Adaptive optics, Optical coherence tomography, 3D
imaging, Spectral imaging, Scanning laser opthalmoscopy

* Retinal landmarks detection and location

*     Lesion detection

* Learning methods for retinal image analysis

*     Multi-modal image processing

* Automatic assessment of image quality

*     Image fusion techniques

*     Characterisation of ocular components

* Novel clinical applications of retinal image analysis

* Imaging for the screening and characterisation of eye diseases

* Cross-disciplinary studies based on image processing e.g.

* Vision after laser refractive surgery

*     Functional imaging

*     Conjunctival imaging

* Screening and disease detection: Detection of retinal marker, Vascular
characterisation

Paper submissions

Papers will be selected on the basis of short abstracts (one page, including
figures; Word or PDF, min. point size 10): submit to Prof Andy Harvey,
[log in to unmask], by 24th March 2008. It is expected that there will be
oral and poster presentations: please indicate your preference in the
e-mail. Also include names and affiliations of authors (indicate presenting
author.) Abstracts will be published on the optical group web pages; details
of the 2006 meeting are at:

Dear Sarah/Claire

Please could you circulate the attached publicity for an Optical Group/BMVA
meeting.

I've attached the doc as both word and pdfs, but if you will be pasting it
directly into a plain text file, perhaps you could use the following:

PS/

As I suspected, my edits didn't quite look right in Word, so I've

attached a pdf version of what it was meant to look like.

ball here. We have lost a couple of weeks, therefore I propose to move the
submission date back two weeks and the notification date back one week. I
think this is still OK. Unless there any strong objections to this today I
plan to circulate the attached to IoP and my network this pm. My apologies
for the urgency, but I don't wish to delay any further - please let me know
ASAP if you have any objections to this.

additional 5 pounds if you want an (optional) lunch. For this price, you
also become a member of BMVA, which means you receive a newsletter, can go
to future meetings in 2008 for free and apply for travel money if you are a
student.

>

> [ARH] This is distinct from the IoP tradition where meetings are free and
open to all, but more problematically it doesn't fit well with the ethos
of this meeting which has a specific aim to be multi-disciplinary (that is
we aim to attract delegates who may be potential BMVA members, but also
physicists or medics who probably have no interest in joining the BMVA - we
cannot realistically expect all delegates to pay the BMVA fee . We have
agreed so far to charge £10 at the door to cover the price of the meal.
Could I suggest that BMVA seek a different model for this co-sponsored
meeting - either charge your delegates in advance or offer all attendees the
opportunity to voluntarily join the BMVA for an additional charge.

the meeting.

other meetings. If you plan to spend considerably (say >1000 pounds) or If
you plan to have a much bigger meeting, with only a small part of it
concerning machine vision, then we should discuss further.

the invited speakers only and that will be <£350.

(see below). Previously, we had suggested that the BMVA would pay for the
invited speakers (up to 350 pounds, I think), and you guys would pay for the
food. Money taken on the door to be split between the two parties in
proportion to their actual costs. I'm still happy with this arrangement.
That just leaves deciding on a cost for the meeting. I think if the cost is
in line with our usual fee, we will make people BMVA members if they so
desire.

>

> [ARH] IoP Optical Group will be paying for the venue - I'm unsure of the
exact cost - about £200 and will underwrite any shortfall on the food. We
have provisionally agreed that if this is >>£350 then we would share the
loss. In the past the shortfall on food has been <<=£100
