Alyson,
One method would be to cut the corduroy strips actually into the paving
with a grinder or cutter? As long as they were to the standard
dimensions they would serve well, they would also not lift or become a
trip hazard.
I did have some contractors here make a float and cast it directly into
the concrete surfacing, this was on a sea front art installation and
anything laid like paviours would have lifted eventually due to the
nature of the site. It worked reasonably well, but the contractors
didn't use good concrete and it is looking the worse for wear. Where
I've had it done again, and where good contractors do it, it works very
well.

Subject: [ACCESSIBUILT] Tactile Paving
We have a new path / art installation currently being installed.
Unfortunately, I was only consulted after the tapered steps and paving
had been installed.
I have been out to the site, and can't see any way that we can avoid
putting tactile indicators to these steps. It was thought that we could
create a path which would guide walkers away from the steps, but this
won't be possible. Also, it's not going to be possible to remove the
paving and replace it with tactile. The paving is pale grey in colour,
and they are keen to have tactile indicators which do not look out of
place.
Does anyone know of a company which supplies retrofit corduroy tactile
indicators? I have done a google search, and found brass studs which
can be retrofitted, but not corduroy. Also, I'm not convinced that
brass would be a suitable material - poor colour contrast and potential
slipping hazards. Any ideas?
Thanks
Alyson Matthews
