if you watch the Dyson video explaning method of
use it is clear that it is intended for standing
use and the user must be able to fully extend both
arms and hands - clearly something not eveyone can
do. Also it does not take account of shorter people
or people with shorter arms.
I simply have a stiff shoulder from a brachial
tendon injury and I find the action uncomfortable
while sitting.
There is also the fact that for use beside a toilet
the user would need to be able to extend their arms
to the side rather than in front (assuming BS8300
is followed and all washing and drying is possible
from the toilet seat).
Envrionmentally the concept is sound but as someone
has already said Dyson need to be contacted and
asked if they have considered equal access to their
product.

My analysis of the product was not that it required
any dexterity other
than to raise both hands simultaleously and hold
them over the vertical
jet,
However it appeared that the projection of the unit
would not allow deep
enough knee space to achieve proximity.

Subject: Dyson Hand Dryers
I have a specific question regarding the new 'award
winning' Dyson
airbalde hand dryers. A client has installed these
in all WCs at a new
HQ including at lower level in the accessible
cubicles. The question
has been raised as to whether these are
'accessible' as they require the
user to have more dexterity than a standard
dryer...any
experience/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Clare
