I didn't immediately see a date of publication on this work by Mumford, but John Myrddhin Reynolds has published on the similarities between Indian Tantrism (not western "tantra") and the kind of Witchcraft described in Leland's Aradia, and the "myth" of Western Witchcraft back in the 1970s, so I wonder if the ideas were taken from Reynold's work?
Reynolds compares the Tantric Ganacakra feast and the Sabbat of the trial records and finds commonalities. Stupidly, I began composing this response before going and finding the bibliographical citation for the Reynolds book, but I promise I'll find it and post it when I do.
