Salary: £18,319 to £20,911 pro-rata
The LSE Archives (part of the Library) is responsible for the care and promotion of a wide range of archives and rare book collections playing an important role in the history of the social sciences. Our holdings include archives relating to politicians, political parties, pressure groups, social investigation, social welfare and anthropology.
We need a part-time archive assistants to join our team and help staff our evening services. You will work two days a week (2pm-8pm) and alternate Friday afternoons (2-5pm) throughout the year and also alternate Saturdays (11am-6pm) during term and the Easter vacation.
You will work as part of a team staffing the service point in the busy Archives Reading Room, undertaking some reading room supervision but in particular fetching and shelving archive material and undertaking photocopying orders placed by archives users. They will also undertake basic sorting and listing projects relating to the archive and rare book collections. The postholder will generally be responsible for securing the Archives offices and cash box at the end of the day and on occasions in the evenings or on Saturdays when no full-time member of staff is present will also be responsible for the overall Archives service.
You will be able to work both as part of a team and on your own initiative and have a good IT and communication skills. You will have a methodical and organized approach to your work and also excellent attention to detail. Commitment to providing a quality service and some experience in a front-line customer service role are essential.
