Currently, I am a research student at Jawaharlal Nehru University in
Delhi working on the history of Indian railways. I will be finishing my
year at JNU in September and
then hopefully complete my MA at Humboldt-University in Berlin.
In addition to the archival research here in India, I thought about
tapping some more sources in UK too. Besides the known facilities in
London (India Office Library etc.) I saw on the net that York University
has quite a good amount of literature and archival material on railways
in general. And also the National Railway Museum is there. My question
is: do they also have substantial material on the history of Indian
railways or is it rather local railways they concentrate on?
Are there other interesting resources available in London or in the UK
that could support my work? Maybe some other places like the National
Railway Museum that have not yet been 'discovered' so much? Or does any
of the libraries of Oxford, Cambridge, SOAS etc. have good material?
I would be very happy to hear from anyone of you.
Kind regards,
Stefan Tetzlaff
