Hi,
this is weird, because my experience is totally different. I just went in again to the site with a totally new Win Live account just to check nothing has changed. I'm associating the account with a directory entry that makes no assertions whatsoever apart from being able to login and it verified that account as a student with no problem - and just to make sure he _really_ could download stuff, I now have another unwanted copy of visual C on my PC.
