Hi all,
Haven't heard anything from this list for ages which either means my
new e-mail didn't get registered or there's no one out there. Here's a
question that should test both possibilities.
I'm currently working for a zoo in the UK implementing an EMS. Once
this is in place we have discussing projects such as carbon
footprinting but what they would really like to be able to do is
measure their net environmental impact in the hope that the benefit of
the conservation and education work outwieghs the negative impacts of
resource use etc.
During my MSc I read various discussions about 'internalising
externalities' and asigning costs to environmental harm much in the way
that the Stern report did. What was less common was discussions on
comparing very different impacts such as negative CO2 emissions and
positive re-introduction of desert antelope to the Sarhara. This could
be done by the value of tourism and employment to the local economy but
I'd like to do take a broader view than finacial worth to the human
population. Can anyone suggest any good references?
Thanks
Duncan
